Tkacze Burz

Storm Weavers: a single-player gamebook

  • Players1

Tkacze Burz (Storm Weavers) is a unique mix of a traditional gamebook with tactical combat played out on a board. It is a perfect choice for fans of mythology and fantasy literature who value story and atmosphere most of all, but also enjoy simple, dynamic combat.

It is a book, and it is for one player only, so you can enjoy it wherever and whenever you want. No need to gather a party before you set out!

Story and tactics

You decide what happens next. Each of more than 200 paragraphs eventually sends you to another one, and often you choose between several options, so the story unfolds according to your decisions.

Sometimes bloodthirsty enemies block your path: wild beasts, mysterious Fomorians, orcs or even demons. Then a confrontation begins, and you use a board, miniatures and dice to decide its outcome.

Gamebooks reborn

Gamebooks, or Choose Your Own Adventure games, were hugely popular in the 1990s. Today they are back in a fresh, modern form, often enriched with elements of other tabletop games.

Tkacze Burz follows that trend: an interactive book at its core, a hero described by attributes on a character sheet as in RPGs, and fights played much like a board or miniatures game.

A rich fantasy world

Every fan of fantasy and mythology will feel at home here. The world draws on Norse and Celtic myths and on literary classics, from Beowulf and the Poetic Edda to The Lord of the Rings. It is an alternative version of our own world where the old gods are still worshipped, magic is alive, and forest trails are roamed by trolls, orcs and far more ancient creatures.

About the author

Paweł Dziemski is an IT specialist by profession with a passion for literature and Celtic and Norse mythology. He plays the bagpipes and the transverse flute, as well as RPGs and gamebooks, which are his greatest love.

Tkacze Burz is the first of his games to appear in print: first as a limited run made possible by the Polish gamebook community on Facebook, then in a new edition with richer artwork and better production quality.

Funded by fans

Publishing this original game would not have been possible without crowdfunding, first in Poland on Wspieram.to, then worldwide on Kickstarter. The first campaign reached its goal in half an hour and ended 2500% funded, and the game later appeared in numerous language versions.
